The Saranac Lake village board has OK’ed the purchase land behind the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department station, with plans to replace or add onto the existing firehouse. At the same meeting, members tabled a vote on creating a $2.5 million reserve fund for fire and police department capital projects; the vote was split 3-1 after public opposition to a decision being made without much prior notice. The land in question is 4/10 of an acre on Depot Street.
