An Essex County supervisors’ economic development committee has approved an incentive valued at $2.8 million for an affordable housing project in Lake Placid, by exempting it from construction-related sales tax. According to the Sun Community News, the exemption is a common incentive for local development and in this case, the project will generate an estimated $800,000 annually in tax revenue. The Peaks at Lake Placid is a 355-unit housing complex at the former W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center property on Barn Road.
