New York State Police, Saranac Lake Police, and the NYS Attorney General’s Office are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at the Stewart’s Shop on Bloomingdale Ave. in the village of Saranac Lake. There is no danger to the public.
The preliminary investigation has determined that on June 29, 2022, at about 8:30 a.m., two members of the Saranac Lake Village Police Department responded to a reported stabbing at the Stewart’s.
When they arrived on the scene, the officers encountered a subject armed with a knife, and a confrontation ensued. One of the officers fired their duty weapon and struck the male, who has died.
The male stabbing victim was taken to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for injuries that are not considered to be life threatening.
This investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it’s available.
