The Village of Saranac Lake will soon be sourcing 100% of its electricity from local hydropower, following a unanimous vote of the Village Board at its January meeting. Sun Community News reports the board voted to enter into a contract with Northern Power & Light to source electricity from two local hydroelectric power plants. The service will cover village electric accounts such as water treatment, public works, and Mount Pisgah, and is expected to save the village $12,000-$15,000 per year.
