Hundreds of local and visiting hopefuls stood in the cold on the Simon Pond boat launch on Saturday looking to win raffle prizes after the Northern Challenge Ice Fishing Derby, one of the largest in the state, was canceled. The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports the event was canceled due to unsafe ice conditions.
