Essex County welcomes millions of overnight guests a year, but has only 36,000 full-time residents to pay for the public services these visitors may require while they’re here. So to help balance the equation, county supervisors passed a measure at their December meeting that will use a new revenue stream from short-term rentals to pay for local ambulance costs. Adirondack Explorer reports the measure will send up to $125,000 to each of the county’s 18 towns with which to shore up their ambulance companies.
