Following a three-month-long investigation into a burglary that took place at a local business in Lake Placid on Nov. 21, 2025, Lake Placid Police arrested 52-year-old Lewis resident Joseph W. Spear and charged him with felony second-degree burglary, felony third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal tampering with evidence, a misdemeanor. Sun Community News reports Lake Placid Village Court issued an arrest warrant against Spear, and on Feb. 22, he was apprehended by Essex County Sheriff’s Office deputies and turned over to local police.
