Despite very cold conditions, the Northern Challenge ice fishing derby went on as scheduled in Tupper Lake. The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports although this year’s 754 registrants make the Northern Challenge one of the largest ice fishing tournaments in the state, the turnout was down from normal. Temperatures never got above minus 7 during the event, according to Tupper Lake’s New York state Mesonet weather station, with the wind chill ranging from -19.8 to -25.9 degrees at the weather station, which is near the Wild Center.
