Lewis Supervisor and Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee James Monty asked for a resolution of support for Barton Mines to expand their mining operations, at a recent Essex County Board of Supervisors Ways and Means Committee meeting. Sun Community News reports Barton Mines is in Warren County but employs several individuals that live in southern Essex County. Right now they have enough space to keep operating for about 25 more years, but they have enough garnet there to mine for 75 years, so they’re trying to get ahead of the project by applying for the extension now.
